Wizz Air to launch new flights from Cluj-Napoca starting 2016 summer

Low-cost air travel company Wizz Air will introduce four new international flights starting July 2016 from Cluj-Napoca to cities in Spain, Germany, Denmark and the UK, Mediafax news agency informs. The company will also expand its fleet at the Cluj-Napoca “Avram Iancu” Airport with a fifth Airbus A320 aircraft, according to Business-Review.eu.“Starting July 2016, four new flights operated from the International Airport ‘Avram Iancu’ will be launched and we will expand our fleet of Wizz Air aircrafts from Cluj-Napoca with a fifth Airbus A320 aircraft. These new flights will have as destinations Alicante (Spain), Berlin (Germany), Billund (Denmark) and Doncaster Sheffield (UK). Cluj has been a success story for Wizz Air and we managed to increase traffic by 42 percent from January to date. With the new aircraft placed at the Cluj airport we will reach 17 aircrafts in Romania,” said Wizz Air executive vicepresident, John Stephenson.

With this latest addition, the Cluj airport offers Wizz Air flights to 27 destinations in 11 countries.

“In the first nine months of 2015, Wizz Air traffic increased on routes from Romania by 20 percent over the same period last year,” added the Wizz Air vicepresident.

In turn, the airport’s director, David Ciceo, said that the passenger traffic for this year has exceeded expectations.

“We estimate 1.4 million passengers, while the final figure will be 1.48 million passengers. In 2020, Cluj airport could reach 2.2 million passengers,” Ciceo said, adding that one of the airport’s priorities is to extend the runway to 3,500 meters.
