SQUASH. 2000 inhabitants of Cluj queue up daily to pay their taxesAround 2000 inhabitants of Cluj queued up in the first working day of the new year to pay their national and local taxes. They spent hours on end in a queue because they wanted to benefit from the lump-sum regime, a 10% discount off the total due amount representing their national taxes.
Another reason why people queued up was for fear that they should lose their parking subscriptions. Representatives from Cluj Napoca City Hall say that these reasons are not strong enough to justify the squash of these first days of the new year. And that is because all those who pay their taxes until March 31 will benefit from the 10% discount. The same holds true for the parking subscriptions which remain valid until March 31. Only if the subscriptions are not paid until that date will the parking places be declared vacant and redistributed to those who applied for a parking space.
