Liverpool have expressed their interest in highly rated CFR Cluj striker Lacina Traore, according to the MirrorManager Roy Hodgson has reportedly pleaded with owners Fenway Sports Group to open their cheque books this month and let him buy his way out of trouble.
However, Liverpool’s new American owners are likely to hand over control of the club’s transfer policy to director of football strategy Damian Comolli.
The Frenchman joined Liverpool just a couple of months ago but has set about working with Hodgson to draw up a shortlist of January targets.
That list is likely to mainly include French or France based players but Comolli wants to extend his net and Traore comes highly recommended.
The Ivorian has impressed for Cluj since signing three years ago, scoring a spectacular goal on his European debut and netting 14 times in 44 games at the age of just 20.
Hodgson has recently spoken of the need to rest Liverpool’s two star players Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard at times this season and he will be hoping to bring in one or two strikers to lift the burden on Torres.
„I think we will have to rest Gerrard and Torres at times”, said Hodgson. „We have to hope that the supporters understand that.
“Fernando had a very serious knee injury, which seems to be in the past, but when you’ve had an injury there’s always the little risk of recurrence.
“And Steven, of course, is susceptible to muscle injury if he plays too many games one after the other.”
