Nokia closes Romanian factory a month earlier than initially announced

Nokia has laid off 500 employees, out of the 1.830 who have been working at its factory in Jucu, Cluj county, a month earlier than expected, mainly due to lack of orders. This happened after the Finnish group decided to close down the Romanian factory, part of the company’s attempt to reduce costs and streamline the workforce. The rest of the employees will leave the factory until the end of November. Nokia has initially said it was planning to close down the Romanian facility by the end of the year.

Cluj: Sorin Apostu, suspended from PDL

The mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Sorin Apostu arrested for bribery was suspended from the PDL where he had the position of chairman of the Cluj-Napoca organization. “ Politically, we could apply article 23, letter c of the Statute of the Democrat Liberal Party together with article 4 line 3 of the Ethical Code, being suspended from his position as member of the PDL Cluj”, the PDL Cluj press release says.Sorin Apostu received in the night of Thursday to Friday a warrant for 29 days through a decision of the Cluj Appeal Court. He is accused by DNA that he took bribe worth 94,000 euro in exchange for signing some contracts connected to the vehicle lot and sanitation.

“Shakespeare High” documentary director Alex Rotaru to hold seminars in Romania

American director and documentary producer of Romanian origins Alex Rotaru will hold several seminars and workshops for students in two cities in Romania, namely Cluj-Napoca and Tirgu-Mures. In Cluj – Napoca, the seminar will be held on November 16, starting 10:00 hours at the Department of American Studies of the“Petru Maior” University, and starting 14:00 hours at “Unirea” National College. In Cluj, the workshops and seminars will take place thursday, at the Film Faculty starting 10:00 hours, while from 14:00 hours they will be held at the „Sigismund Toduta” School of Music.
