Rafael Bastos will not be representing Olhanense or any other club in Portugal as the Brazilian will ply his trade for Romanian outfit CFR Cluj.
From the absurd to the ridiculous. Once believed to be making his way to the Estadio Jose Arcanjo, former Sporting Braga player Bastos looked all set to move to the the Algarve side.
But the transfer was halted as the midfielder’s reprsentatives made last-minute demands from Olhanense, negating the pre-accord that was agreed upon by the player and Portuguese club.
It now appears clear as to why the deal fell through as Bastos’ handlers had a better offer from Cluj and wanted to see if Olha could match the terms that the Romanians put forth.
Bastos was spotted taking in the match between Cluj and Unirea for the Supercup over the weekend and was officially presented to the press.
It appears that Champions League football was what made the 25-year-old’s mind up, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.
“I was impressed with how the match was played at and I also liked Cluj’s performance. Participating in the Champions League was what made my decision,” declared Bastos.
