NEMANJA Vidic sees no point in looking back on what might have been for Manchester United last season.United have endured a stuttering start to the new campaign, losing their opening match at Everton before beating Fulham last Saturday.
They head to Southampton this weekend knowing victory would at least push them up among the early-season pace-setters prior to the first international break. It would not be a bad way to recover from the memories of that desperate May day when a 20th championship seemed to be theirs, only for it to be snatched away at the death by Manchester City.
But Vidic feels it is time to forget.
“You have to look forward. Never look back,” he said.
“Whenever we won it before we never looked back. When you look back it doesn’t make you any better. You always have to look ahead to the next challenge.”
The challenge for Alex Ferguson is to get a couple of orthodox central defenders on the pitch after being forced to name Michael Carrick alongside Vidic for those opening two games.

Ferguson was at Altrincham on Wednesday to watch Jonny Evans play his first 90 minutes since a summer ankle operation, with the Ulsterman looking fit enough to slot in alongside his captain on Sunday.
Yesterday was full of draws and potential transfers, with Bebe and Federico Macheda possibly on the move.
It is the Champions League that is of most interest, though.
Ferguson will be wary of group including Braga, Galatasaray and Romanian outfit Cluj given the disaster that unfolded last term, when United crashed out in the group stage.
“Obviously, we’ve never played Cluj before but, after the experience of last year, we don’t want to make any stupid errors this time,” said the manager.
“We will play our strongest team to make sure we get through.”
