Former Cluj coach Sorin Cartu has been banned for one European match for improper conduct after smashing a plexiglass window in a team dugout during a Champions League match at FC Basel.
Cartu kicked out at the dugout panel in anger during his team’s 1-0 loss in Switzerland on Nov. 23, sending shards flying through the air. He was fired by Cluj the following day.
UEFA imposed a one-match suspension and fined Cartu —10,000 ($13,100) on Wednesday.
Cartu was also ordered by the governing body to contact Basel and settle the costs of the damage caused.
Cluj’s defeat at Basel ensured it would be eliminated in last place in Group E. The Romanian team is now coached by Alin Minteuan.
