UPC Romania will launch ‘Fiber Power’ internet with download speeds of 200 Mbps in 9 cities on 2 September, namely in the capital Bucharest, Bacau, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Galati, Iasi, Ploiesti, Timisoara and Sibiu, writes local publication Wall-Street.ro citing CMO UPC Romania Robert Redeleanu. These cities cover over 60 percent of the area in which UPC offers internet services, and Bucharest is covered in proportion of 70 percent by UPC.With Fiber Power 200 Mbps, one needs approximately 3 minutes to download 4.7 GB. As online video consumption is on the rise, UPC estimates that speeds of up to 100 Mbps will become the new usage standard. A third of UPC Romania’s internet customers have Wi-Fi and over 70 percent of new customers choose this option, Redeleanu told Wall-Street.ro. Between April and August, the average internet speed sold in Buchares was 120 Mbps, Redeleanu added. UPC Romania aims to migrate all of its UPC customers to packages offering at least 60 Mbps by 2015, Redeleanu said. The share of customers who have 60 Mbps subscriptions doubled in the last year, he added. In 2013, the operator launched 120 Mbps in 13 cities and plans to take the number of cities where this speed is offered to 40 by the end of 2013.

UPC Romania also has significant plans to increase its upload speeds, according to Redeleanu. The operator invests approximately EUR 30 million annually in the infrastructure of its network, Redeleanu mentioned.
