Emerson is continuing its expansion in northwestern Romania, in the Euro Business industrial park in Oradea and the Tetarom II industrial park in Cluj-Napoca. The American giant plans to invest EUR 50 million in the construction of a manufacturing location in Oradea and EUR 15 million in building a new production hall in Cluj-Napoca, The Diplomat – Bucharest has learned.“Emerson will start the construction of a 20,000-sqm production hall in the first months of 2013 and by the end of the year we will kick off works for an office building which will cover 7,000 sqm and will be used for engineering and back office activities,†said Emerson officials.
This is the largest investment made in Oradea in the last 20 years and will provide jobs for about 1,500 people.
The news comes one week after the start of an investment project in Cluj-Napoca. The new hall in the Transylvanian city joins the already operational three halls and two office buildings. The firm has six production units which manufacture gas pressure regulators, power generators (mostly for wind energy projects), electrical equipment for photovoltaic power plants, electrical equipment for special settings and professional tools, Calin Banciu, general manager of Emerson Romania, told The Diplomat – Bucharest.
“The initial plans from 2006 foresaw about 2,000 employees for the manufacturing location in Cluj-Napoca, but things turned out better than expected,†said Banciu. “By 2015, about 2,500 people are expected to work at Emerson in Cluj-Napoca.â€
The new building covers 18,000 sqm and the costs of its construction will reach about EUR 9 million, while the investments in equipment amount to EUR 6 million, Viorel Gavrea, general manager of Tetarom, told The Diplomat – Bucharest. “The new hall will provide the region with 900 new jobs and its construction will last for about one year,†he added.
The new investment brings the total value of the involvement by Emerson in Romania so far to EUR 120 million, Gavrea added. “Emerson started in Cluj-Napoca in 2006, but its vision has meanwhile monumentally changed,†said the manager of the Tetarom industrial park.
To date, 1,300 people have been working at the Emerson manufacturing location in Cluj-Napoca. About 800 of them have a university diploma and work for the engineering and development center of the American technology company.
The Ministry of Finance lists a turnover for Emerson in Romania of EUR 49 million in 2011. The company is a global manufacturing and technology firm with over 133,000 employees and 235 manufacturing locations worldwide.
