The floods of the past days in Romania have left three people dead and 104 localities under water, Interior Minister Vasile Blaga told a videoconference on Wednesday.According to him, the central county of Alba, where 18 localities were hit and one people died, and the central county of Cluj, where 13 localities got under water and two people died, were the most affected areas.
Prime Minister Emil Boc, who chaired the videoconference, specifically asked the prefects of the counties where the Danube enters and leaves the country to take all the necessary measures to protect human lives and contain damage.
Abundant rainfall in the past 24 hours has generated troubles for 28 of Romania’s 41 counties.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), the flood toll is 1,873 submerged homes and farms and 1, 065 hectares of farmland; 1,928 hectares of grass fields, pastures and woods; 2 km of national roads, 37 km of county roads; 91 km of commune roads; 103 bridges and footbridges all under water, plus 424 clogged wells.
A number of 933 IGSU employees and over 670 employees of the Interior Ministry and other structures were mobilized to contain the effects of the adverse meteorological phenomena.
