4000 Hungarians from Transylvania have applied for the Hungarian citizenshipAround 4000 ethnic Hungarians from Transylvania have already applied for the Hungarian citizenship or have requested information on the documents they need to submit to the Hungarian Consulate General in Cluj. The information was offered by His Excellency the General Consul of Hungary, Matyas Szilagyi.
The Hungarians living in Transylvania want to obtain the citizenship offered by the Hungarian Government in order to benefit from a number of advantages, such as: simpler procedures to obtain tourist visas for countries like the United States of America, Australia or South Africa, or the possibility to work without restrictions in a number of countries in the European Union which have imposed temporary limitations for the Romanian and Bulgarian citizens. There are also people who simply wish to obtain the Hungarian citizenship for moral reasons, because this would complete their feeling of belonging to the community.
