Wizz Air ups its Romanian presence

Wizz Air has further expanded its operation with a number of new routes, several raised frequencies and two new aircraft for its bases at Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara, according to routes-news.com.New twice-weekly services from Cluj include Nuremburg (Germany) from October 1, Cologne (Germany) from December 20 and both Geneva (Switzerland) and Malmo (Sweden) commencing on December 21.

Twice-weekly flights from Timisoara launch to Germany’s Munich Memmingen and the Italian city of Turin (November 1), Belgium’s Brussels Charleroi (November 2) and Germany’s Frankfurt Hahn (November 3).

The Central and Eastern Europe LCC will also be raising the number of weekly flights to popular destinations from the two airports, including Paris, Dortmund, Milan and Rome.

Speaking at the sidelines of the Routes Silk Road forum in Tbilisi, the airline’s head of ground operations and customer service, Davit Mamulaishvili, commented: “We stay committed to Romania by creating more jobs and stimulating tourism in the regions we operate in.

We hope that our new routes will be welcomed by consumers and benefit the local economies as we bring more low fares to Romania.”

To operate the increased number of flights, Wizz Air intends to deploy a fourth A320 at Cluj-Napoca and double its fleet at Timisoara by bringing in a second A320.
