As Afghan pilot instructors graduate from Shindand air base in western Afghanistan and Afghan-only flight crews embark on active missions across the nation, the Afghan Air Force is once againdeveloping into an important part of the Afghan security forces.
In the early 1980s Afghanistan had a strong and capable air force. But in the civil war all that changed. Today, Afghanistan’s air force is still a work in progress, but one that has come a long way in a short space of time.
