The radical nationalist organization Hungarian Guard is planning to hold an event in Transylvania to mark the 91st anniversary of the formation of The Székely Regiment (Székely Hadosztály), Transylvanian daily Krónika reports. The Székely Regiment was established in Kolozsvár (today’s Cluj-Napoca) in 1918 to protect Transylvania from Romanian troops who had crossed the Carpathians into what was then Hungary. On December 1, a dozen members of the „Székely Platoon of the New Hungarian Guard” want to hold a commemoration ceremony on the main square of Cluj-Napoca, but the city’s mayor did not authorize it.
Nándor Keresztes, a spokesman for the organization, said: „We have a responsibility to the past, and we have a right to commemorate the establishment of The Székely Regiment.”
