Portuguese Paulo Sergio has been named as the new coach of CFR Cluj after they parted company with Andone last week.Sergio becomes the club’s 12th coach in the last 8 years and the second Portuguese to hold the position this year after Jorge Costa left the club in April.
One of his first tasks will be to guide them through their Champions League fixture against Galatasaray.
He may not have too hard a job as the bookies have given Cluj the slight upper hand with odds of 19/11 to win against Galatasaray’s 16/9, however, it is a narrow lead and nothing can be taken for granted.
Sergio says that he is a “modest guy” who believes that “success comes after work.”
While the group are currently doing well in the Champions League, they are second in Group H, they are struggling at home and are currently seventh in the league with 19 points from 13 matches.
Before the Champions League match Sergio will be with Cluj when the host Botosani in the Romanian Cup, it will be his chance to win over fans who didn’t like Andone’s defensive coaching style.
Sergio says that “Nobody wants to win more than me” and he knows the club can “achieve our goals.”
