Transylvanian Motorcycle tour, a ride with a bite

With vampires being the topic of so many movies and television shows, riders can go to the birthplace of the blood-sucking legend with a motorcycle tour.Being called ‘Best of Transylvania – Motorcycle Tour’ the seven day itinerary promises to take riders through Transylvania is the land of mystery and legends.

But organizers point out, it’s not just the famous bloody Count Dracula attracting visitors here, but also medieval citadels, imposing castles, and the Carpathian Mountains, with beautiful sceneries and some of the best motorcycle roads in Europe.

Guests start the motorcycle ride right in the heart of Transylvania, in the city of Cluj Napoca, one of Transylvania’s largest urban centers. They venture into the heart of the county enjoying rides through picturesque villages, breathtaking scenery and important cultural centers.

The itinerary promises to cover some of the best motorcycle routes in the country:

Sunset Mountains – a ride into the shadow of the forests enjoying the cool air of caves, hidden in the mountains. One of the most famous caves is the Huda lui Papara Cave. In order to reach the cave a ride on a challenging unpaved road will reward the motorcyclists with the feeling of freedom and breathtaking views. There is nothing to worry about; the BMW motorcycles used for the tour (the GS models) can handle these sections of unpaved roads very well.

The most crooked and challenging of Europe’s roads for motorcyclists – the Transfaragasan (Transfagarasan Pass – 2042m above sea level) – built between 1970 and 1974 as a military route, by communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu (after the Soviet invasion of Cehoslovakia in 1968) it snakes up the tallest peaks of the Carpathians.
