Schalke Europa League match moved to Cluj

Schalke′s Europa League match at Steaua Bucharest has been moved to Cluj after the pitch at the new National Arena in the Romanian capital was deemed unplayable, the German club said Friday. The pitch was badly churned up when Romania played France on Tuesday in the stadium’s official opening.

The Europea Leage match on Thursday will now be played at the Dr Constantin Radulescu Stadium, the home of CFR Cluj, which has a capacity of 23,500.

Schalke said the decision was taken by UEFA after some consideration was given to postponing the match.

„This is very annoying for us and especially for our fans,” Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said. „We tried everything to find another solution.”
