Romanian Cardinal Lucian Muresan accuses PDL of drafting an anti-Greek Catholic bill

In an open letter, his Beatitude Cardinal Lucian Muresan, the Major Archbishop of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church, strongly protested against a bill submitted to Parliament by the vice-president of the Liberal Democrats, the main opposition party.According to Cardinal Lucian, the bill drafted by MP Ioan Oltean would delay, or even completely block the restitution of former Greek Catholic churches, even when they are restituted following a court order. The bill provides instead for dialogue and the will of the majority of the faithful as a solution to the Greek Catholic-Orthodox property issue.

In 1948, the Communist dictatorship prohibited the Greek-Catholic Church in Romania, imprisoned its bishops and priests, confiscated all its properties and gave them to the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Cardinal Lucian Muresan asked PDL Chairman Vasile Blaga to withdraw the bill.
