Chairman of the Association of Romanian Cities (AMR) Gheorghe Falca told a press conference on Friday that the organization he had been heading would become a public utility association. One thing we can say we earned today is the fact that the Association of Romanian Cities will be of public utility,” said the mayor of Arad (western Romania).
He added that they had the support of Premier Emil Boc and of Minister of Administration and the Interior Vasile Blaga. The latter added, in his turn, that by obtaining the public utility association status, AMR would be able to obtain public money and would be able to access European funds.
“Then, the association can also access governmental funds too in order to develop joint projects, which is very good. I respect the NGOs, but I think that such structures, which represent the citizens, must also get the benefits provided by the law. It can access European funds, just like the NGOs, because it is not a political organization,” explained Vasile Blaga.
Premier Emil Boc and Minister of Administration and the Interior Vasile Blaga on Friday participated in the session of the steering committee of the Association of Romanian Cities, organized in Cluj-Napoca.
