Dani leaves Cluj for Iraklis

Portuguese midfielder Dani has brought the curtain down on a highly successful spell with Romanian champions CFR Cluj by leaving the club to join Iraklis Thessaloniki.
The 28-year-old, full name Daniel da Silva Soares, was one of the many Portuguese players to move to ambitious Transylvania outfit Cluj in 2007, helping set a trend that has since seen large amounts of players recruited from Portugal into the Romanian game.

Along with players such as Ricardo Cadu, who still captains the team, Dani helped Cluj to two league championships and three Romanian Cups during his time with the club. Overall, the former Pacos de Ferreira man made 87 league appearances at the Dr Constantin Radulescu, while also taking part in the team’s Champions League campaign in 2008/09.

Now, Dani has signed a contract valid for two seasons with Iraklis, the club with which goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes impressed enough in the second half of last season to earn a move to domestic champions Panathinaikos.

The Portuguese quartet of goalkeeper Nuno Claro and defenders Cadu, Nuno Diogo and Tony remain with Cluj, who were drawn in Group E of the Champions League along with Bayern Munich, FC Basel and AS Roma.
