Cosmote Romania has announced the launch of commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in Bucharest, Otopeni, Ploiesti, Cluj, Iasi, Sinaia, Busteni and Predeal. Initially the cellco’s LTE network is accessible via two USB dongles, each priced at RON99 (USD29.5) and the Samsung Galaxy Note LTE 10.1 tablet, costing RON1,369. The 4G launch allows end users to experience transmission speeds of up to 75Mbps/37.5Mbps (down/uplink). Lampros Iskos, chief technical officer for Cosmote Romania, commented: ‘The gradual development of our 4G network and product portfolio is ongoing, in alignment to our broadband development strategy which is the main pillar in our investment plans’.Cosmote currently offers DC-HSPA+ speeds of up to 43.2Mbps in 159 cities and over 1,000 localities across Romania, covering over 49.5% of the population. In addition, 21.6Mbps HSPA+ technology is offered in a total of 189 cities, giving Cosmote 3G coverage of 73% of the population.
