Romanian club, CFR Cluj have signed on Nigerian striker, Derrick ‘Chuka’ Ogbu.Ogbu joins from the Belgian Jupiler League club, OH Leuven.
The 23-year-old scored eight league goals for Leuven in the 2012/13 season and is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in European football.
A statement on the official CF Cluj website on Tuesday ratified the deal which may have raised a few eyebrows.
“The Nigerian striker, Derick Ogbu Chuka, had joined our team, CFR 1907 Cluj! Welcome to our club and we wish you good luck in this new season!” the statement read.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian on the books of Cluj, Obiora Nwankwo has welcomed Ogbu to the side with open arms.
“To be honest, I haven’t been following his progress in Belgium but the scouts at Cluj are among the best in the world. If they identify a player, then you can be sure the player is special. I am sure he (Igbu) will have a great time here and I will do my best to make him feel at home,” Obiora told supersport.com.
Ogbu spent three seasons in Belgium after joining the Jupiler League club from Doha-based club, Umm Salal in 2010.
