Champions League football is here again this week and some teams still haven’t decided their fate even after 5 match-days.
But who are those out there who know pretty well about their next step in the tournament? We look at what Day 6 means for the 32 teams involved in this season’s Champions League group stages…
Champions League: Teams Safe For Last 16 Football Ahead Of Match-day 6
Tottenham and Inter Milan, Schalke 04 and Olympique Lyonnais, Manchester United and Valencia, Chelsea and Marseille, Real Madrid and AC Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have all booked their seats for the next stage of the Champions League.
Some of these teams, however, have more reason to take match-day 6 seriously as finishing on top of their respective group is their aim. Spurs and Inter are in this situation in Group A. Both teams have 10 points but Harry Redknapp’s men lead the way on goal difference. The head-to-head rule also goes in their favor.
In Group B, all is not lost for Olympique Lyonnais who are just 1 point behind the leaders Schalke 04. While Benfica stand a good chance of stealing points away from the Germans on Tuesday night, Olympique Lyon have been tipped to defeat Hapoel Tel Aviv in France. Such a prospect will offer the French side Group B’s top spot.
Manchester United are having a decent run so far and they lead Valencia with 3 points. However, Los Che could grab the first position in Group C; that’s if they manage to defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Interestingly, everything has been sorted for the rest of the teams that are safe going into match-day 6. Barcelona need not to worry about losing the first spot in their table. The situation is the same for Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Champions League: Teams Disqualified After Match-Day 6Werder Bremen, Bursaspor, Panathinaikos, CFR Cluj, MSK Zilina and Partizan Belgrade will have to play for pride this week and for nothing more than that. Zilina, in Group F, have been rattled time and times again this season in the Champions League. Like Partizan, they are yet to record a single point.
The only difference between these two teams is that Zilina have a poorer record than the Serbians. Really, does a team expect to go forward in a competition after having allowed 17 or 10 goals in their net? Bursaspor also falls in the category of the worst teams of the Champions League this season with no point and a (-14) goal difference.
Perhaps, Bremen, CFR Cluj and Panathinaikos’ records aren’t as humiliating as those of Zilina, Partizan and Bursaspor. However, their fate is the same: they are out of the Champions League and of Europe completely.
Champions League: Teams To Settle With The Europa League
It has been confirmed: FC Twente, Rangers and Spartak Moskwa will participate in this season’s Europa League tournament. 5 more teams should join them and they will come out from this following list:
Group B’s Benfica and Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Group D’s København and Rubin Kazan, Group E’s AS Roma and FC Basel, Group G’s Ajax and Auxerre, as well as Group H’s Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal and Sporting Braga. Of course, some among these 11 teams will reach the Champions League’s Last 16 stage whereas others will crash out from the competition…
