ActMedia: Cluj-Napoca to be European Youth Capital in 2015

The city of Cluj-Napoca (western Romania) will be the European Youth Capital in 2015.

The decision was made by a jury made up of European youth organizations and partner institutions on Saturday, November 24, at Maribor, Slovenia, a city that will be the European Youth Capital in 2013.The candidacy of the city of Cluj-Napoca for the title of European Youth Capital 2015 was declared at the initiative of the Pont Group in Cluj-Napoca, which was supported by more than 30 local youth organizations. Of the 12 European cities that aspired for the title mentioned before the following ones reached the final stage of assessment: Cluj-Napoca, Ivanovo, of Russia, Varna, of Bulgaria, and Vilnius, of Lithuania. The four candidate cities developed programmes and a dynamic outlook on unemployment with young people, social inclusion and activities meant for youth people.

The cities of Rotterdam, of the Netherlands, Turin, of Italy, and Antwerp, of Belgium, were European Youth Capitals in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

This year, the Portuguese city of Braga holds the title and carries out innovating projects referring to the young people’s active participation in social life.

In 2014 the events will be hosted by the city of Thessaloniki, the second largest one in Greece.
