Cluj: Sorin Apostu, suspended from PDL

The mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Sorin Apostu arrested for bribery was suspended from the PDL where he had the position of chairman of the Cluj-Napoca organization. “ Politically, we could apply article 23, letter c of the Statute of the Democrat Liberal Party together with article 4 line 3 of the Ethical Code, being suspended from his position as member of the PDL Cluj”, the PDL Cluj press release says.Sorin Apostu received in the night of Thursday to Friday a warrant for 29 days through a decision of the Cluj Appeal Court. He is accused by DNA that he took bribe worth 94,000 euro in exchange for signing some contracts connected to the vehicle lot and sanitation.During 2009 – 2011, in exchange for signing contracts to insure the vehicle lot of the companies under the supervision of the Cluj Local Authority, namely the sanitation of the city – Apostu Sorin, as mayor, asked and received sums of money worth 94,000 euro. To dissimulate the origin and the purpose of the money received from corruption actis, among the companies which received contracts from the town hall and the lawyer’s practice were signed contracts for judicial consultancy, so that the money was collected through the practice belonging to Apostu Monica Undina, accused in the same file” DNA says.

As for Sorin Apostu he was accused of bribery in a continuous form.
He had been arrested for 24 hours and during Thursday he was presented to the tribunal with a 29 day proposal for arrest, which the judges accepted.
