The number and the importance of the academic debates in which the students of the Babes-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca (northwestern Romania) participated ranks this higher education institution on the 81st place among the world universities by such activity meant to contribute to the development of communication and reasoning skills among students.The academic debates have an increasingly important role within universities, and in the case of UBB, they have the purpose of promoting the institution in Cluj-Napoca at international level, among famous universities such as Harvard, Yale, Cambridge, Oxford.
The UBB Lingua Centre promotes academic debates through the activity of the Debate and Communication Club and the meetings organized weekly prepare the students for the participation in important national and international debate competitions.
