Romania’s Cluj-Napoca airport registers record number of passengers in 2015

The Avram Iancu International Airport in Cluj-Napoca registered 1.48 million passengers in 2015, this being a new record high for the airport located in central Romania. The number was 26% higher than the one reported in the previous year when the airport had 1.18 million passengers, according to Romania-Insider.com.
Most of the passengers who departed from Cluj-Napoca traveled to London Luton (194,250), Bucharest Otopeni (171,491), Munich (131,384), Milan Bergamo (95,151), and Paris Beauvais (92,384).

The number of aircraft movements (landings and takeoffs) also increased by 15% year-on-year in 2015, to 14,667, according to a statement of the airport.

For 2016, the airport’s management estimates an increase of 14% compared to 2015, to some 1.7 million passengers.

Airlines operating flights from Cluj-Napoca have announced the opening of eight new destinations from this airport, namely Warsaw (operated by Lot Polish Airlines starting March 30), Dublin (operated by Blue Air starting June 4), Liverpool (Blue Air – starting June 3), Memmingen (Wizz Air – starting February 15), Berlin-Schoenefeld (Wizz Air – starting July 22), Doncaster Sheffield (Wizz Air – starting July 22), Billund (Wizz Air – starting July 23), and Alicante (Wizz Air – starting July 24).
